Setting Up Subdomains Follow
If you are using the manual method and wish to promote other products alongside SAS, you will need to set up a subdomain on your host account. This allows you to have multiple pages under one URL, saving you money and hassle of having multiple domain URLs.
Instructions may vary depending upon the host provider you choose, but in this article we have outlined the basic instructions for Bluehost and Coolhandle.
What is a Subdomain?
Subdomains are are attached to the front of your main domain. They usually follow the form subdomain.maindomain.com. They behave very similar to a normal domain. You can point them to a folder to host a website just like a normal domain name.
Creating A Subdomain - Bluehost
- Log in to your Bluehost cPanel account.
- Click the Domains tab at the top of your account.
- Click On Subdomains on the submenu.
- Enter the desired subdomain
- Choose one of your Domain Names from the drop-down list
- Enter the Document Root, this is the folder that contains the website you want to show.
- Click Create
How to setup an Add on Domain Name - Coolhandle
After logging into your control panel, go to Domains > Add on Domains, after which you will see these options.
New Domain Name: Enter your domain you wish to add here.
Username/directory/subdomain Name: When you click outside the New Domain Name field, this will be filled out for you. You can leave it this way, but if a name you already used is suggested, you will need to change it.
Document Root path: When you click outside the New Domain Name field, this will be filled out for you. You can leave it this way, but if a path you already used is suggested, you will need to change it.
Password: Enter the password you wish to use for this domain.
Now click the Add Domain button to finish.
